2MVA Package sub-stations for BT

Kane Engineering has recently completed a major LV switchgear project for BT Northern Ireland at its Belfast Telephone House Data Centre.

The project comprised two 2MVA package sub-stations, each with Mains & Generator 3200A ACB incomers and up to six ACB (ABB E-Max drawout) outgoers on each panel, serving critical equipment within the data centre.

Kane Engineering also supplied and installed the Cast resin transformers, close-coupled to each of the form 4 Cubic panels.

Apart from the main LV panels, Kane also supplied two 800A rated Form 4 type 2 sub switchboards; two 630A Automatic changeover panels serving the critical cooling equipment on the data centre level itself, and four PDU's (Power distribution panels).

The PDU's incorporate static transfer switches for instantaneous switching between the two power sources available, 18W TP+N outgoing ways, and the lastest Branch Circuit monitoring systems to track power usage for each rack within the data centre.

The project was completed for local M&E contractor Weir & McQuiston Ltd. during the period January-March 2009, and working with BT's consulting engineer for the project Wallace Whittle.
